Kerra Bazzey

B.A History (Hons) UWI, LL.B (Hons) UWI, LL.M Petroleum Taxation and Finance (Distinction) Dundee, M.B.A Oil and Gas Management (Distinction) Dundee

Kerra Bazzey was admitted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in Trinidad and Tobago in 1998. She began her career at the firm of R.O. Huggins and Company (now Chersons) and remained there for four and a half years. The experience gained there was invaluable as it groomed her to manage a highly vibrant and diversified portfolio, exposing her to an extensive range of civil litigation; conveyancing, company, employment, insurance, intellectual property, matrimonial, and succession law. She strongly advocates the value of a small firm as it forces the Attorney to ‘hit the ground running’.

An interest in the energy sector led her to The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago in 2003, where she gained considerable insight into the oil and gas industry. There she became involved in existing and proposed projects for the domestic, regional and international gas markets. In 2004 she left Trinidad and Tobago to pursue a double masters at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy in Dundee, Scotland. There she pursued an LLM in Petroleum Taxation and Finance and an MBA in Oil and Gas Management. The combination of the double masters allowed her to gain insight into a range of courses of interest to the oil and gas sector. In fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the LLM, in 2004 she undertook an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). This internship exposed her to a breadth of local and international tax issues affecting natural and artificial persons.

In June 2006, she graduated with a distinction in each degree and returned to Trinidad and Tobago to offer herself for service.
